Exam pattern

MECEE-BL is the bachelor-level common entrance examination for medical education in Nepal. The following pattern covers the syllabus’s MBBS/BDS/BSc Nursing/BSc Midwifery/BASLP/B Perfusion Technology group. Other program groups have different subject weightings and eligibility routes.

  • Single best response from four options (A, B, C, D).
  • The qualifying threshold is the 50th percentile, not a fixed 50% score. Inclusion in a merit list is not a guaranteed admission or scholarship.
  • The syllabus specifies a 50:30:20 item mix for recall, understanding and application.

Eligibility for the MBBS group

The syllabus describes these routes on printed pages 2–3. Your intended program’s current admission notice takes precedence.

10+2 science or equivalent

Passed 10+2 Science or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with at least 50% aggregate in total marks or GPA 2.4. Equivalent grading systems, such as A-Level, must meet the specified percentage/GPA requirement.

Health science PCL / diploma route

The listed health science diplomas include General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography and Physiotherapy. This route requires Physics, Chemistry and Biology; a Grade 12 Science equivalence certificate from NEB; at least 50% aggregate in both the diploma and equivalence examination; and registration with the relevant Nepal Health Professional, Pharmacy or Ayurveda Council.

Other programs and foreign candidates

BAMS and allied-health programs, BPH, and BNS/BMS have separate sections in the syllabus. For example, the allied-health group includes a PCL-specific content component. Do not assume the MBBS-group eligibility or subject split applies to them. Foreign-board qualifications and foreign-candidate categories must be checked against the relevant notice and equivalence requirements.

Application checklist

Read the detailed notice for your program and cycle on the MEC entrance portal. MEC’s registration instructions say to check eligibility before depositing the application fee, which is non-refundable.

  • Bank voucher / deposit slip and recent passport-size photograph.
  • Academic transcript and relevant council registration where required.
  • Equivalence certificate for Nepali students who completed +2 through a foreign board.
  • Citizenship certificate for Nepali applicants or passport for foreign applicants.

Fees, dates, quotas, seats and matching schedules vary by notice. Passing the entrance examination and receiving a seat are separate stages.
